A freestanding 3 season dome tent that two people can pitch in about five minutes, so you are set up before the light goes.

Polyester fabric with a PU 1500mm waterproof coating and a removable rainfly handles rain, wind and sun on ordinary camping weekends.

The floor measures 8 feet by 7 feet with a 50 inch centre height, giving 56 square feet of room for sleeping mats and gear.

Four aluminium poles clip to the body rather than threading through sleeves, which cuts fiddling and makes solo setup realistic.

At 3.5 kg packed into its carry bag, it suits backpacking, festivals, fishing trips and the boot of the car equally well.

CAMPROS CP Dome Camping Tent

Most camping arguments happen in the first twenty minutes, when the car is half unpacked and nobody can work out which pole goes where. This dome tent is built to skip that part. The four aluminium poles clip to the tent body instead of threading through long sleeves, the frame stands on its own before you peg anything, and the listed assembly time is about five minutes with two people. First timers manage it. People who camp often tend to get quicker than that.

CAMPROS CP Dome Camping Tent

The shelter itself is honest, simple polyester with a PU 1500mm waterproof coating and a separate polyester rainfly you can take off entirely. In fair weather, leaving the fly off turns the tent into a bright, airy shelter with a mesh window for breeze and a view. When the weather turns, the fly goes back on and creates a vestibule over the single zippered door, which is where the muddy boots and the wet pack live instead of in your sleeping space.

CAMPROS CP Dome Camping Tent

Inside, the floor runs 8 feet by 7 feet for 56 square feet of usable space, with a maximum centre height of 50 inches. That is a sit up, kneel and shuffle sort of height rather than a stand up one, which is normal for a dome of this size. Two campers get a genuinely roomy night with space for bags at their feet. Three can share comfortably. The rated four person capacity is a snug fit, best for kids or for people who do not mind sleeping shoulder to shoulder.

CAMPROS CP Dome Camping Tent

The floor is polyethylene, a thicker and more puncture resistant material than the walls, which matters more than people expect when you are pitching on gravel, stubble or a worn campsite pad. Two interior pockets handle the phone, head torch and keys so they are not lost in a sleeping bag at 2am. The zips are standard tent zips, so the usual rule applies, guide them with two hands and keep grit out of the tracks.

CAMPROS CP Dome Camping Tent

Packed, the whole kit is 3.5 kg in its carry bag with the rainfly, four poles, stakes and tent body included. That is light enough to carry on a short hike in, easy to throw in a boot for a road trip, and small enough to keep permanently in the garage for spontaneous weekends. It is rated as a 3 season tent, which means spring, summer and autumn conditions rather than snow loading or alpine winter storms.

Not sure yet? That is fine.

Frequently Asked Questions

What exactly is this product?

It is a freestanding dome camping tent from CAMPROS CP, model CP-8750. It uses four clip-on aluminium poles, polyester fabric with a PU 1500mm waterproof coating, and a removable polyester rainfly. The kit includes the tent body, rainfly, poles, stakes and a carry bag.

How many people does it actually sleep?

It is rated for 4 people and the floor gives 56 square feet. In practice two adults get a very comfortable night with gear inside, three fit well, and four is a close fit best suited to kids or campers happy to sleep side by side. Think of the rating as a maximum rather than a comfort number.

How big is it when pitched?

The pitched dimensions are 2.44 m long by 2.13 m wide by 1.27 m high. In imperial that is roughly an 8 ft by 7 ft floor with a 50 inch maximum centre height. The dome shape means the full height is only at the middle.

Can I stand up inside it?

No. The maximum centre height is 50 inches, which is about 127 cm, so it is a sitting and kneeling tent. That is standard for a compact dome and is part of why it packs down so small. If you want to stand, you need a cabin style tent instead.

How long does it take to set up?

The listed assembly time is about five minutes with two people. The poles clip to the tent body rather than sliding through sleeves, which is the main reason it goes up quickly. Once you have done it twice, you will beat that time.

Can one person pitch it alone?

Yes. Because it is freestanding, the frame stands up before you peg anything, so you are not fighting tension and wind at the same time. Solo setup takes a little longer than five minutes the first time, but it is straightforward. Peg the corners before you add the rainfly on a windy day.

Is it genuinely waterproof?

The fabric carries a PU 1500mm waterproof coating and the floor is polyethylene, and the listing records it as waterproof. That handles typical rain on a camping weekend. As with any tent, performance depends on pitching it taut and keeping the fly off the inner wall.

What does 1500mm actually mean?

It is a hydrostatic head rating, a measure of how much water pressure the fabric resists before it leaks. A 1500mm rating is a common standard for 3 season camping tents and is fine for showers and steady rain. It is not intended for days of driving storm.

What season is it rated for?

It is a 3 season tent, meaning spring, summer and autumn. It handles rain, wind and sun in ordinary conditions. It is not built for snow loading, alpine winter or extreme storms.

What are the poles made of?

There are four aluminium poles that clip to the tent body. Aluminium is lighter than steel and more forgiving than cheap fibreglass, which tends to splinter with age. Store them in the bag rather than leaving them bent.

What fabric is used?

The tent body and rainfly are polyester, and the floor is polyethylene. Polyester holds up well to UV compared with nylon, and polyethylene gives the floor extra puncture resistance. The exact fabric denier is not specified in this record.

Does it come with pegs?

Yes, stakes are included along with the tent body, rainfly, poles and carry bag. Many campers eventually add heavier duty pegs for hard or sandy ground. That is a cheap upgrade and worth doing if you camp often.

Is there a vestibule?

Yes, there is one vestibule created by the rainfly over the single door. It is the right spot for boots, a pack or a wet jacket so the sleeping area stays clean and dry. It is a porch rather than a storage room, so size your expectations accordingly.

How many doors and windows does it have?

There is one zippered door and one window. Combined with the removable rainfly, that gives you reasonable control over airflow. This is a fair trade for the low packed weight, though two door tents make late night exits easier.

How does ventilation work?

The mesh window lets air move through while keeping insects out, and taking the rainfly off on a clear night turns the tent into a very breezy shelter. Condensation builds in any tent when warm bodies meet cold fabric, so keep the window open where weather allows. Avoid cooking or boiling water inside.

Can I use it without the rainfly?

Yes, the rainfly is removable. On warm dry nights, leaving it off gives much better airflow and a view out of the mesh. Keep it packed nearby so you can throw it on if the weather turns overnight.

How heavy is it to carry?

Packed weight is 3.5 kg including the tent, fly, poles and stakes. That is easy to carry in a pack for a short hike in and barely noticeable in a car boot. For anyone comparing it with a best backpacking tent, split the load across two people and it is very manageable.

Is this suitable for backpacking?

It is listed for backpacking as well as camping, hiking, festivals and fishing. At 3.5 kg it is reasonable for short trips, especially if two people share the poles, fly and body between packs. Dedicated ultralight hikers carrying solo for a week would want something lighter.

Will it work at a festival?

Yes. The quick pitch, freestanding frame and low pack weight make it a practical best festival tent choice. Peg it properly even on a crowded field, and pick a spot slightly raised if you can so water does not pool under the floor.

Is it good for fishing trips?

It is listed among the recommended uses. The vestibule is handy for wet gear, and the two interior pockets keep small items off the floor. If you fish in exposed spots, guy it out well as it is a 3 season shelter.

Can I use it for car camping?

Absolutely. For a best car camping tent, the five minute pitch and the 56 square foot floor make short stops easy. Two people can use the extra space for bags, a cooler and a bit of elbow room.

Is it a good tent for beginners?

Yes. The clip-on poles, freestanding frame and small parts count make it a sensible best beginner camping tent. Do one practice pitch in the backyard before your first trip so you are not learning in the dark.

Are there storage pockets inside?

There are two interior pockets. They are sized for a phone, head torch, glasses or keys. Keeping those items off the floor saves a lot of blind searching at night.

What colour is it?

The colour is listed as 4 Person Navy Blue. A darker tone cuts some of the early morning glare inside compared with pale fabrics. No other colour options are specified in this record.

How do I clean it?

Hand wash only. Sponge with cool water and a mild, non-detergent soap, then rinse and air dry fully. Machine washing, bleach, tumble drying and dry cleaning will damage the waterproof coating.

How should I store it between trips?

Pitch or hang it until it is completely dry before it goes in the bag, even if it only feels slightly damp. Shake out grit, loosen the pole sections rather than storing them under tension, and keep the bag somewhere cool and dry. Damp storage is the single fastest way to ruin a tent.

Do I need a groundsheet or footprint?

The polyethylene floor is already more rugged than the walls, so a footprint is optional. On sharp gravel, stubble or a well used pitch, a cheap tarp cut slightly smaller than the floor adds life and keeps the underside cleaner. Make sure it does not stick out, or rain will run under the tent.

How do I get shipping and delivery details?

Delivery options, costs and estimated timeframes are shown at checkout for your country. If you need the tent by a specific date for a trip, contact us before ordering and we will confirm what is achievable.

Does this make a good gift?

It does, especially for someone starting out or replacing a tired old tent. The quick pitch removes most of the frustration that puts new campers off, and it is useful for weekends away as well as festivals. Pair it with a decent set of pegs or a mallet to round it out.

What if it is not right for me?

Get in touch and we will sort it out. If the tent is unused and still in its original packaging, we will walk you through the return process for your country. If anything arrives damaged or a component is missing, send us a photo and we will arrange a replacement or refund.

How To Choose A Dome Tent That Actually Suits Your Camping

6 min read Camping Company

The twenty minutes that ruin a camping trip

Ask anyone who has camped more than a handful of times about their worst memory and you will rarely hear about rain. You will hear about arriving at dusk, tipping a bag of poles onto wet grass, and discovering that the instructions are a single folded sheet printed in grey ink. Setup is where camping trips go wrong. Everything after that, the cooking, the sitting around, the sleeping, tends to look after itself.

That is the problem a clip-pole dome tent is built to solve. Instead of threading long poles through fabric sleeves while someone holds the other end, you lay the tent flat, slot four aluminium poles together, stand them up and clip the body onto them. The frame holds its own shape. You can pick the whole thing up and move it two metres to the left if you have misjudged the slope. Pegging comes last, not first.

This CAMPROS CP tent lists a five minute assembly time with two people, and that is a realistic number once you have done it once. First attempt, give yourself ten. After that you will stop reading the instructions.

How a freestanding dome works

A dome tent gets its shape from poles crossing over the top. The tension in those curved poles pushes outward against the fabric, and that is what keeps the walls up. Because the structure is self supporting, you do not need pegs or guy lines just to make it stand. That is what freestanding means, and it is a genuinely useful property.

It matters on hard ground where pegs will not go in, on wooden platforms, on rocky pitches and at crowded festivals where you are squeezing into a gap. It also means you can shake the tent out at the end of a trip, which is the easiest way to get sand and leaves off the floor.

Freestanding does not mean you should skip pegging. The moment wind picks up, an unpegged dome becomes a very expensive kite. Peg the four corners every time, and use the guy points if there is any weather around.

The other half of the system is the rainfly. On this tent it is a separate polyester sheet with a PU 1500mm coating that goes over the top and forms a vestibule above the door. In fair weather you can leave it off and sleep under a mesh window with good airflow. When rain arrives, the fly carries water away from the inner tent and off the sides.

Who this tent suits

Written on the box is four person capacity, and that is accurate in the way tent capacities usually are. It means four sleeping mats will physically fit on a 56 square foot floor with nothing else in the tent.

In real use, this is an excellent two person tent. Two adults get a wide sleeping area plus room at their feet for packs, boots and a bag of food. Three works well, particularly a couple with a child. Four adults is tight and only sensible if everyone is happy touching shoulders and keeping gear in the vestibule or the car.

The 50 inch centre height is the other thing to be honest about. That is a sitting height, not a standing one. You can kneel and change clothes, you can sit up and read, you cannot walk around. Dome tents trade height for strength and pack size. If standing room matters more to you than weight, you want a cabin tent, and you should expect it to be heavier and slower to pitch.

At 3.5 kg packed, this falls in the useful middle ground. It is light enough to carry on a hike in, especially split between two packs, and small enough to live permanently in the boot of the car for spontaneous weekends.

What the waterproof numbers mean

Tent waterproofing is measured as hydrostatic head, which is a test of how tall a column of water the fabric can hold before it leaks. The rating here is PU 1500mm, which refers to the polyurethane coating applied to the polyester.

For a 3 season camping tent, 1500mm is a sensible, common spec. It handles showers, steady overnight rain and damp mornings. It is not built for multi day storms or snow sitting on the roof. The three season rating is the honest guide here, spring through autumn, not winter alpine.

Two practical things make more difference than the number itself. First, pitch tight. A saggy rainfly touches the inner wall, and wherever those two layers touch, water will wick through. Second, manage condensation. Every person in a tent breathes out moisture overnight, and when that warm air meets cold fabric it condenses. People often mistake this for a leak. Leave the window open where you can, and never cook or boil water inside.

The floor is polyethylene rather than coated polyester, which is a deliberate choice. It is thicker and resists punctures from gravel, sticks and stubble far better than the walls would. If you camp regularly on rough ground, a cheap tarp underneath adds life, just make sure it is cut smaller than the tent footprint so rain does not run under it.

Choosing between this and the alternatives

If you are comparing tents, work through these questions in order.

How many people, honestly? Buy one size up from your usual group. A four person tent used by two is comfortable. A four person tent used by four is a dormitory.

How far are you carrying it? Under a kilometre from the car, weight hardly matters. Several kilometres in, 3.5 kg split between two people is fine. For solo multi day hiking, look at a dedicated ultralight shelter instead.

How fast do you need to pitch? If you arrive late, camp in the rain, or travel with children or impatient friends, a quick clip-pole design is worth more than any other feature on the spec sheet.

How often will you use it? For a few trips a year, this sort of tent is a sensible purchase. For every weekend in exposed conditions, consider a heavier expedition build.

One door or two? This tent has one door and one window. Two door tents are easier for midnight exits when someone is sleeping between you and the zip. It is a real trade, and it is the price of a lighter, simpler tent.

Looking after it

Tents mostly die of neglect, not use. The single biggest killer is packing a damp tent and leaving it in the bag. Mould sets in within days, and it smells permanent because it is.

So the rule is simple. Before it goes away for the season, pitch it in the garden or hang it over a railing until it is completely dry. If you packed it wet because you had to leave a site in the rain, get it out the moment you are home.

Cleaning is hand wash only. Cool water, a mild non-detergent soap, a sponge and a rinse. Washing machines, bleach, tumble dryers and dry cleaning all strip or crack the waterproof coating. Grit is the other enemy. Shake the floor out, brush the zip tracks, and run zips with two hands rather than yanking them.

Poles last longest when you let them collapse naturally rather than whipping the shock cord, and when you store them in the bag instead of leaving them half bent in a corner.

The short version

This is a 3 season, four person rated dome tent built around speed and simplicity. Four aluminium poles clip on for a five minute pitch, the polyester body carries a PU 1500mm waterproof coating, the rainfly comes off entirely for warm nights, and the whole kit packs to 3.5 kg.

Use it as a roomy two or three person tent and you will love it. Fill it with four adults and you will wish you had sized up. For weekends, festivals, fishing trips and short hikes in, it does the job without any drama in the first twenty minutes.
